Get to know your audience with an Instagram story survey

We already know Instagram as an amazing place for sharing information, building a community and connecting with your customers. Now is the time to start thinking about it as a place to collect data!

The beauty of Instagram is that you are able to communicate directly with your perfect customer. Whether it’s through the comments section of a photo or through a DM, you can get right into the mind of buyers!

But have you ever thought of Stories as the ideal tool for data collection?! Believe it or not, this may be one of the best survey apps out there to research the market.

Here are a few reasons why it works so well!

  1. REACH - Direct access to a lot of people who already love and support your company

  2. FUN - You can make it fun for yourself and the people participating

  3. QUICK - Takes very little time to make and to respond

  4. LOW COMMITMENT- Customers don’t need to worry about account creation or email sharing

  5. FREE - Costs absolutely nothing to get started

  6. INFORMATIVE - You can find out a ton of information that can help evolve and grow your business

  7. CUSTOM - Lots of freedom to customize types of questions and answers

Need we say more?

Here are the tools you can use to create your very own Insta Story Survey

These can be as simple as a yes or no question, or get very specific with answers.

Take it easy and just use the create tool, insert a poll and put in a question and answer.

If you’re feeling fancy, you can even insert photos (use the layout tool, or prepare your slides on Canva). This can be a great way to find out which products customer prefer or what they want to see on your new menu!

Sometimes you have more than two ideas, and that’s where the quiz tool comes in. Whether you’re deciding what question to answer on your next IGTV or you want to know what you should include in your revamped newsletter, the quiz tool can help.

What we like the most about this tool as that it gives you exact numbers of votes, so even if one option gets 56 votes and ‘wins’, you can still know that another got 55 votes and is obviously still useful!

*You technically have to pick a ‘correct’ answer, since this is meant to be a quiz, but you can just let your followers that there is no right answer.

When a question just isn’t so black and white, use the slider tool. This can be thought of more like a, ‘on a scale of 1 to 5’ question. In the end, you’ll just get the overall average of the group. This can be useful for emotion-based questions or to find out how much the audience likes one particular item or subject.

This tool’s name implies that people should ask YOU a question (which they totally can), but we have an even better use for it: asking completely open-ended questions to your followers.

The world is your oyster with this one!

Stuck on blog post ideas? Ask your audience what questions they want answers to!

Not sure what product to create next? Ask your audience what they want to buy!

Don’t know if you should continue to post personal stories on Instagram? Ask your audience what kind of posts they enjoy the most!

Get creative with emojis and gifs, use your brand colours and just have fun with it. If you have a question, there is a good chance your audience has the answer!

We switched to Calgary Photos about three months ago and are extremely pleased with the results. All of our listings including high end listings are selling very quickly. We had a 1.3 million dollar acreage sell in just 9 days for almost full asking price to out of town buyers that had only viewed the photographs online at the time the offer was written. The professionalism of the photographers and quality of the photographs are second to none. If you are looking for excellent results Calgary Photos are your go to photographers.
